NEW YORK – Christie’s is honored to announce strong results for Prints and Multiples and Marc Chagall, Color of Life: Prints & Artist’s Books formerly from the Artist’s Estate. In total, the two sales realized $9,609,390, with Prints and Multiples totaling $8,684,928, and Marc Chagall, Color of Life totaling $924,462.
Prints and Multiples sold for 104% of its low estimate, 88% by value, and 81% by lot. The top lot of the sale was Andy Warhol’s Moonwalk, which realized $693,000, an impressive 277% of its low estimate. Additional standout lots from the sale included Buste de femme au chapeau by Pablo Picasso, which achieved $554,400, Green by Richard Diebenkorn, which sold for $491,400, and Litho #1 (Waves #1) by Willem De Kooning, which realized $428,400.
Marc Chagall, Color of Life: Prints and Artist’s Books formerly from the Artist’s Estate featured prints made over a period of sixty years, offered on the market for the first time. The sale sold for 159% of its low estimate, 100% by value, and 99% by lot. The top lot was Maquette pour Le quai des Célestins, which sold for 336% of its low estimate, realizing $100,800. Additional notable results included Homère: L'Odyssée, which achieved $75,600, and Maquette pour La vache bleue, which realized $40,320.
