Rules for Media Attending Auctions

Christie's accommodates requests from journalists to film and report on our auctions on a case by case basis. Due to the high volume of requests and limited occupancy in our auction room, it is Christie's policy to prioritise access to members of the news corps and to journalists strictly reporting on the sales with immediate distribution. We ask that media in attendance adhere to the following rules:

Cameras, photographers and journalists must remain in the designated press area within the sale room. Videographers and photographers are not allowed to roam about the saleroom. If you choose to feature any of the artwork sold, you will be responsible for obtaining any legally required intellectual property rights clearances.

Absolutely no filming is allowed of clients and bidders in the room that identify a person's face. You may take pictures of the auctioneer or Christie's staff members on the telephones, but no pictures that identify clients. Only wide angle or shots showing the back of heads are allowed.

Social media – when posting pictures taken on personal devices from the sale room, you must adhere to the rules above (1. & 2.)

You should not approach clients in the auction room or anywhere else on Christie’s premises for interview.

No stand up reporting in the auction room while the sale is in progress.

No flash photography.

If you wish to have an interview with a Christie's specialist or auctioneer, please consult a member of the Christie's Press department.
