London – Captivating hearts and imaginations around the globe and much anticipated, The Pattie Boyd Collection offered by Christie’s online has now concluded, realising over seven times the pre-sale high estimate and selling for a total of £2,818,184 / $3,604,457 / €3,291,639. Providing a remarkable window into the private world of the celebrated model, muse, photographer and icon, the sale was led by the original artwork chosen by Eric Clapton for the cover of Derek and The Dominos 1970 album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs which sold for £1,976,000/ $2,527,304 / €2,307,968 – 33 times the pre-sale high estimate – after a prolonged bidding battle (estimate: £40,000-60,000).

Lot 34, the original artwork used for the cover of the 1970 Derek and The Dominos album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, originally acquired by Clapton from the son of artist Frandsen De Schomberg during a 1970 stay at the artist’s home in France, when the guitarist was struck by the resemblance to the similarly blonde-haired Pattie Boyd sold for £1,976,000 / $2,527,304 / €2,307,968 (estimate: £40,000-60,000).
Lot 36, Of mice and men, handwritten love letter from Eric Clapton in 1971 realised £119,700 / $153,096 / €139,810 (estimate: £10,000-15,000).
Lot 33, Eric Clapton ‘Dearest L’ handwritten love letter, urgently mailed to the Harrison home around the same time that he wrote his famous ode to unrequited love, Layla, fetched £107,100 / $136,981 / €125,093 (estimate: £10,000-15,000).
Lot 22, Photographs of The Beatles in India, 1968 sold for £52,920 / $67,685 / €61,811 (estimate: £3,000-5,000).
Lot 25, the original handwritten lyrics for George Harrison’s Mystical One sold for £47,800 (estimate: £30,000-50,000).
