- THE IMPRESSIONISTS HONORED ON THE OCCASION OF THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MOVEMENT
Paris - Following the success of its first Impressionist and Modern Art: Œuvres Choisies sale in April 2023, Christie's Paris presented this afternoon a specialised sale of 23 works by some of the most sought-after artists coming from prestigious private collections. The star piece was Matisse et Terrus by André Derain, painted in 1905 and never been brought to the market before. It fetched €3.2 million, confirming the importance of its rediscovery. The sale also featured the greatest Impressionist artists, such as Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Berthe Morisot, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the movement, as well as a work by Françoise Gilot, Concert on the Green (Le Concert Champêtre) from 1953, which this evening fetched €1.3 million, a new world record for the artist.
